PFA seals tea whitener company, raids food outlets


Punjab Food Authority inspection team raided a renowned food production unit in Manga Mandi (Multan Road) area and wasted about 40,000 litres of tea whitener for being injurious to health.
According to the PFA officials, the authority had earlier issued a warning to the manufacturers as instead of maintaining 3.5% dairy fat, the company was adding 8% vegetable fats.
Separately the PFA officials also fined 20 thousand rupees to a milk shop over poor cleanliness and sanitation issues. The team headed by PFA Director General Noorul Amin Mengal also sealed the production unit, owned and operated by a renowned company for flouting hygiene standards.
“The company continued using 8pc of vegetable fat and non-food grade colour in the production that was against laws,” according to the press release of PFA. The authority also imposed Rs9,000 penalty on a Pizza outlet; Rs8,000 on a Fried Chicken shop; Rs. 10,000 on another outlet at Liberty Market; Rs. 5,000 on Milk shop; Rs. 10,000 on a Sweets franchise of Lahore.—INP
