Peshawar win first gold in Men’s Squash event of KP U-23 Games

Peshawar—Peshawar clinched the first gold medal in the Men squash event part of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Under-23 Men and Women Games in progress at different venues here on Wednesday.
The Men squash event played at Qamar Zaman Squash Complex, Peshawar defeated Bannu in the final by 2-0 when Saif Ullah and Haroon recorded victories against their respective rivals from Bannu Faizan and Saqib in straight sets.
Former World Champion Qamar Zaman and Director Operation Tariq Mehmood graced the occasion as guests and distribute the trophies and cash prizes among the position holders. Bannu recorded victory against Hazara in the semi-final while Peshawar defeated Mardan in the second semi-final by 2-0. Peshawar team also recorded victory against Dera Ismail Khan by 2-0.
In the gymnastic event Peshawar recorded 199 points by winning the overall trophy while Riaz of Peshawar was declared as best gymnast who grabbed three individual gold medal in ring, cross-bar and horse bar event. Besides him Shakeel also won gold medal for Peshawar while Waqas and Shahab of Swat won one gold medal each. Mardan’s Asghar got silver medal, Rohullah of Swat, Muhammad Gul of Peshawar also won two silver medals each.
Swat remained at second by securing 162 points, followed by Mardan with 63 points. In the hockey event Manshera defeated Dera Ismail Khan by 3-1.
The hockey match played at Lala Ayub Hockey Stadium where Vice President Pakistan Hockey Federation Muhammad Saeed Khan formally inaugurated the tournament. Syed Zahir Shah, the organizing secretary was also there. In the Badminton event played at Wadood Hall, Swat beat Kohat by 2-0, Bannu beat Mardan by 2-0 and Dera Ismail Khan beat Hazara by 2-0. In the male volleyball event Bannu defeated Kohat by 3-0 while Peshawar outclassed Swat by 3-0 to reach to the grand final.
In the Men Table Tennis Peshawar reached to the final with Fahad Khawjah, Ummam Khawjah and Haseeb defeated Anzala, Faisal and Haider in straight sets.
In the Women event played at BISE Sports Complex, Jinnah College for Women and University Campus grounds and Gymnasium, Peshawar and Hazara racing up for taking lead against each other. In the Baseball event Peshawar and Hazara took berth into the final while Hazara stunned Peshawar Badminton team and moved to the semi-finals. Peshawar defeated Kohat by 7-0 in the first match of the Baseball event while Bannu beat Swat, Hazara shocked Dera Ismail Khan. Hazara defeated Mardan before reaching to the baseball final of the women event.
Director General Sports Miss Rashida Ghaznavi is overall supervision the female events as she visited each and every venue before the competitions to make ensure all out facilities to the female players during their stay at Peshawar.
In the Netball women Peshawar beat Dera Ismail Khan by 7-3, Mardan beat Kohat by 3-0 in the volleyball event. The score was 25-21, 25-19 and 25-23. Bannu shocked Peshawar by 3-0 and Hazara outclassed Swat by 3-0 in the volleyball event and moved to the semi-final.
In Table Tennis Hazara and Mardan took berth into the final of the Badminton event while in hockey event Mardan beat Dera Ismail Khan by 3-0 and Peshawar beat Swat by 2-0. —APP
