People urged to protect forests

Director Environmental Wing, Capital Development Authority (CDA), Rana Tahir on Monday emphasized the need for educating local community and sensitizing them on protection of forests and wildlife in parks. “It will be difficult for us to control the situation until people respond responsibly. A key role by communities and to respond positively is must for conservation of Margalla Hills National Park’s (MHNP) habitat of birds, mammals and species,” he told APP.
He said CDA’s Environment Wing has been working for conservation of MHNP habitat of birds and up-gradation of walking and hiking tracks. It is alarming that since peak season started this year, around 22 fire eruption incidents have been recorded against a total of 17 incidents last year.—APP
