People fondly remember former ISI chief on first death anniversary


Thousands attend Fikr-e-Hamid Gul Convention

Islamabad—A large number of people from all walks of life gathered at the Aiwan-e-Quaid of the Nazriya Pakistan Council (NPC) to attend the Fikr-e-Hamid Gul Convention and paid homage to Gen (R) Hamid Gul, former ISI Chief and a distinguished soldier of Pakistan on his first death anniversary (died: Aug 15, 2015).
They termed Gen Gul a great visionary leader, an architect of the fall of former Soviet Union in Afghanistan and a role model for all those who were championing the cause of Islam in the world. Tehreek-e-Jawanan-e-Pakistan had organized the convention. Chairman of the Tehreek, Abdullah Gul who is also a son of the late general expressed his gratitude to the overwhelming number of participants saying their love and regard for his father showed the authenticity of his ideology. “Gen Hamid Gul was an ideologist and believed in renaissance of Islam. After seeing such a large gathering at the Aiwan-e-Quaid I have every reason to believe that his ideology is alive even after his death and will remain so in the days to come,” said Abdullah Gul.
He said Gen Hamid Gul’s took inspiration from the ideology and teachings of Allama Mohammad Iqbal and Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah. In the light of his ideas, it is high time that we should strive for change of system in Pakistan instead of changing the faces, said Abdullah Gul.
Omar Gul (son) while addressing the convention said the mission of his late father would be carried on and his ideas and view would continue to guide the youth of Pakistan.
He also expressed gratitude to the participants for remembering his father and keeping his memory and philosophy alive. Among the noted personalities and former colleagues from armed forces who attended the convention included former Army Chief Gen (R) Abdul Waheed Kakar, former Governor Punjab Gen (R) Safdar, former Governor KP Gen (R) Gen Muhammad Shafiq, former Governor Balochistan Gen (R) Imran Ullah Khan, Gen (R) Sajjad, Gen (R) Rehan Dil Bhatti, Gen (R) Shujaat Hussain, Gen (R) GM Malik, Gen (R) Shahid Aziz, Gen (R) Agha Masood.
Senior anchorperson Hamid Mir, MPA Ziaullah Shah, Fazlur Rehman Khalil, Ameer Hamza and Sh Jamilur Rehman were also there and paid rich tributes to Gen Hamid Gul.
