PCB too needs to be overhauled

FOLLOWING national cricket team’s recent dismal performance in major tournaments, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) while taking a step in the right direction has decided to remove the head coach Waqar Younis, Chief Selector Haroon Rasheed and captain of T-20 format Shahid Afridi.
Consistent poor play first in Asia Cup and then repeating the same in T-20 World Cup with humiliating defeat at the hands of arch rival India has badly shattered the hopes of cricket frenzy and loving fans back at home. Poor performance of Umar Akmal, Shoaib Malik and Ahmad Shahzad in a much win match against New Zealand served as rubbing more salt on the wounds of the nation. Particularly, Akmal and Malik remained listless in the crucial match, giving the impression that they were deliberately trying to fail Shahid Afridi as a captain. The curse of grouping or power tussles has been afflicting the national cricket team for quite a long time now but nothing has been done by those at the helm of affairs to rectify the situation. In addition, our flamboyant players having the worst fitness levels are more inclined towards commercials than improving their game and removing their weaknesses. The current set of batsmen has demonstrated with their performances in the Asia Cup and the T-20 world cup that they are unable to handle quality spinners and fast bowlers even on batting paradise pitches. Ours are a cricket loving people and the frequent poor shows by players have given them nothing but agony and literally plunged them into gloom. In our view, the main culprit of this pathetic condition of cricket team is the PCB itself. Those sitting at the top positions in the Board have nothing to do with the cricket. They are just blue eyed people of somebody. In fact, they, for the last couple of years, have been subject to severe criticism due to their policies. Some of our insiders also say that some PCB high ups are themselves involved in corruption and malpractices. We, therefore, urge the Prime Minister to remove the current top lot and install some responsible and upright people having the know-how of cricket at the PCB to revive the old glory of Pak cricket.
