Parveen Shakir Urdu Poetry Festival being held today

The Parveen Shakir Trust is organizing a one-day “Perveen Shakir Urdu Shayeri Mela” or Parveen Shakir Poetry Festival today (Sunday) to celebrate the book birthday of the poet’s first book, “Khushboo.” The festival will start at 10:00 A.M at the Islamabad Hotel.
Senate Chairman Mian Raza Rabbani will be the chief guest on the occasion. Parveen Shakir Aks-e-Khushboo Awards for Poetry and Literature will be given along with the Parveen Shakir Trust Members’ Choice Award and The Parveen Shakir Gold Medal. Trust’s latest publications will be launched.
(Two books will be launched on the occasion one being the Sindhi translation of Parveen Shakir’s poetry.) Tributes will be paid to the legends of Urdu poetry and contemporary poets will discuss various aspects of Urdu poetry as well as present their own work.
The Parveen Shakir Trust keeping up with its tradition of has always come up with something novel for the literature lovers. This time it is going to celebrate the 39th Birthday of Parveen Shakir’s first poetic collection “Khushboo” (published in 1977).
This is a historic turn in the poetic journey of the renowned national poet as well as a very memorable date in the history of Urdu poetry as “Khushboo” took the poetry lovers by storm and Perveen Shakir rose to new heights of fame and carved for herself a very prominent place in the literary circles with her very first book.
The festival will end with a tribute to the Sufi poets without whom the poetic scene seems incomplete.
