Islamabad—Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Rana Tanveer Hussain Thursday said being the frontline state against terrorism, Pakistan needs to depend more on its national talent rather than imported equipment and technology.
He was addressing the participants of inaugural session of one-day mini-symposium workshop of prioritization of research and development to promote academia-industry partnership being convened at the Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University (PIMS).
Addressing the participants, the minister said a nation can only progress, when it is independent from foreign reliance for its major projects.
This would only happen when we were ready to embrace our own human as well as natural resources in a befitting manner, he added.
He appreciated the idea put forward by Dr Javed, (PIMS) to carry a workshop on promoting academia-industrial relationship. This is the need of this era, where each country has to excel in its industry and no industry can be fully operational to meet the needs of a nation unless they know the problems and demands of their consumers, he said.
Rana Tanveer encouraged the PIMS management to bring forward practical research avenues and make a liaison with the Ministry of Science & Technology for establishing links with industrial sector so as to envisage the economic as well as self-reliant industrial growth.
The minister ensured the PIMS administration of his ministry’s full support in all their endeavors to bring forward a good collaboration between medical sector and industry for a need-based research program.
He also congratulated the PIMS management for the 21 Million worth of grant from the Prime Minister for their mega projects for establishing operation beds, hospital extension and construction of a state-of-the-art dental hospital.
The opening ceremony ended with exchange of shields to the worthy guests of honor of the inaugural session.
