Pakistan has lot of potential in education sector: Mukhtar

Pakistan has a lot of potential in the realms of education and that our research work has been recognized at international level. This was stated by the Chairman of Higher Education Commission (HEC), Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, says a statement here on Tuesday.
He was speaking on “Higher Education in Pakistan: The way forward” at Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU). Dr. Mukhtar pointed out that we have to undertake serious efforts in education for achieving international top ranking and education but still with small investment, Pakistan is competing with the rest of the world.
Appreciating the research work of Pakistani scientists, the HEC Chairman said that we are in a very good position as compare to previous years but have still not crossed 0.29% of GDP spending in higher education sector.
Dr Mukhtar Ahmed further said that if will we go to history we would realize that Muslims were the people who initiated many kind of subjects in the world. In between the era of 3rd and up to 13th century our forefathers were the leaders in the different fields whether it was Mathematics, Health, Medical Education, Chemistry, Physics or Astronomy.
He said they were the Muslims who invented theories and formulas that based of today’s education. HEC chief opined that we have to invest in education and our academia need to play their role which they are supposed to play.
In his welcome address, Dr Muhammad Ali Shaikh, Vice Chancellor of Sindh Madressatul Islam University, talked on the role of Sindh Madressatul Islam University in developing leadership.
He said that the prime feature of Sindh Madresstul Islam used to be its production of leaders, the names of many leaders which are associated with this institution are so many.
