Pakistan Academy of Sciences elected Treasurer of Asian Academies

Islamabad—Association of Academies and Societies of Sciences in Asia at its general assembly meeting in Ankara, Turkey has elected Prof. Zabta Shinwari of Pakistan Academy of Sciences as treasurer of AASSA. Shinwari secured 100% votes against his contestant. Prof. Zabta K. Shinwari UNESCO Laureate is Secretary General, Pakistan Academy of Sciences. The AASSA was established in 2012 through the merger of the Association of Academies of Sciences in Asia (AASA) and the Federation of Asian Scientific Academies and Societies (FASAS) to promote solidarity and cooperation among the scientific and technological academies in Asia and Australia. The AASSA has been playing a central role in promoting cooperative efforts among the member academies and societies to further develop sciences and technologies needed for he rapid development of the region. The AASSA currently has 34 member academies and societies relating to science and technology representing 30 countries. It is one of the four Regional Networks of IAP, the Global Network of Science Academies. Prof. Zabta K. Shinwari on return to Islamabad told Pakistan Observer that Pakistan Academy of Sciences (PAS) enjoys prestige at the international level as a dedicated organization of Scientists in Pakistan. The PAS as been making useful contribution to the promotion of Sciences in Pakistan. (end)
