Pak assurance to KSA

FOREIGN Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has categorically declared that Pakistan would stand with Saudi Arabia in case of any threat to the latter’s sovereignty. “Pakistan’s sovereignty is linked with the peace and stability of Saudi Arabia and it will stand with Saudi Arabia in all odds,” he said in his meeting with Saudi Acting Foreign Minister Ibrahim bin Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Assaf, on the sidelines of Meeting of Foreign Ministers’ Council of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), in Jeddah.
The assurance extended by the Foreign Minister is timely and reflected the will and aspirations of people of Pakistan. People of Pakistan consider Saudi Arabia as their second home and demonstrated on different occasions in the past that they were motivated enough to sacrifice everything to uphold the cause of security and defence of the brotherly country. The statement of the Minister has come at a time when an unpredictable situation is evolving in the Gulf presenting security challenges to the countries of the region. There are serious apprehensions that the prevailing tension in the region could degenerate into a full-fledged war, which no one knows in what direction it can go. Saudi Arabia’s security and solidarity is of fundamental interest to the entire Ummah as it is symbol of unity and cohesion of the Islamic world. It not only houses the holiest places of Islam but has also been championing the cause of the Muslim world at all forums without any reservations. The kingdom has also been in the forefront whenever there has been any economic or financial challenge to any Muslim country and it has been endeavour of the leadership of the kingdom to utilize the wealth of KSA to safeguard political and economic sovereignty of vulnerable Islamic states. Pakistan is particularly grateful to Riyadh for its generous support to the country at a time when the government is trying to stabilize the economy. KSA also played a highly laudable role during recent standoff between Pakistan and India and in view of the clear anti-Muslim and anti-Islam policies of India, we hope the Kingdom would listen to the viewpoint of Pakistan that there should be no room for India at a platform that is representative of the Muslim world as it would amount to rewarding a country for its anti-Muslim policies.
