Senior officials and experts from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Turkmenistan would meet soon to discuss wide prospects for coordinated efforts to increase collaboration in energy and water resources.
Afghan Energy Deputy Minister Abdul Bashir Azimi in a statement announced that a trilateral meeting will be held in the near future between representatives from Afghanistan, Turkmenistan and Pakistan to discuss the project.
Mr. Azimi was also quoted as saying “We have made a deal with the Asian Development Bank about the Turkmenistan power transit project to Pakistan which will go through Afghanistan’s western provinces.”
The development was reported on the occasion of arrival of a high-level delegation from Turkmenistan to Kabul to assess power export needs to Afghanistan and to discuss Afghanistan-Turkmenistan joint power projects, energy and water ministry officials confirmed.
Afghan Energy and Water (MoEW) ministry officials said that the Turkmen delegation will also hold talks with Afghan officials on a new project which will see Turkmenistan transmitting power to Pakistan through Afghanistan.—PPA
