PA approves budget

Lahore—The Punjab Assembly on Wednesday approved 37 supplementary demands for grants for 2015-16 during last (11th) sitting of the 22nd (budget) session.
The session commenced 68 minutes behind its scheduled time with Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal in the chair. Provincial Ministers Rana Sanaullah Khan, Dr Ayesha Ghous Pasha, Raja Ashfaq Sarwar, parliamentary secretaries and parliamentary leaders especially of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) attended the sitting.
In her wind up speech, Finance Minister Dr Ayesha Ghous Pasha said the Punjab government had presented the best budget for the fiscal 2016-17. In the budget, she said, every sector was given priority by considerable allocations. She expressed the hope that the budget would bring about a revolution and the province would make progress by leap and bound.
She said ample funds had been provided in the provincial budget for the farming community. “The government has offered ideal incentives to enable growers to double their agricultural productions,” Dr Aysha said. The minister pointed out that Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif had announced Rs 50 billion for farmers under Kissan Package while the Punjab government had contributed Rs 20 billion for the agri sectior.
“We had given Rs 12 billion subsidy on agriculture tubewells,” she mentioned adding that a sum of Rs 8 billion had been spent on payment of pensions. In response to a question by an opposition member Mian Aslam Iqbal, Dr Ayesha said machinery for tubewell at Zakriya Park, Samanabad, Lahore had already been purchased and soon would be installed.—APP
