One held for torturing polio worker

Faisalabad—Gulberg police claimed arresting of a youth on charge of torturing worker of anti-polio team here on Tuesday. Police spokesman told that health department team was administering anti-polio vaccine in a union council of Gulberg area when a youth Azeem Ghumman prohibited them from giving anti polio drops to his children.
When the anti-polio team insisted to administer polio drop to the children under the age of five year, the accused got enraged and allegedly attacked at the team and re-portedly thrashed a worker of the team. After incident, the health department team postponed the work and informed the police through Rescue 15 call about the incident.
On information, a police team of Gulberg police rushed to the spot and arrested the accused. Further investigation is under progress, police spokesman added.
Meanwhile, speakers at a seminar have urged parents to cooperate with anti-polio teams for complete eradication of the disease. Addressing an anti-polio seminar here on Tuesday, the speakers including Senior District Officer Social Welfare & Bait ul Mall Muhammad Ashraf, DDOs Social Welfare Mu-hammad Nasir, Mrs Sofia Tasleem Akhtar, Miss Aafia Khan and Madam Samina said that there was a dire need to create maximum awareness and motivate the parents to administer anti-polio drops to their children under the age of five years which is for the safety of children from disability.
They said that every person from the society should play his role to make Pakistan polio free country because it is our national obligation. A large number people from different walks of life participated in the seminar.—APP
