OIC to promote peace in Libya: Madani

New York—On the margins of the ongoing proceedings of the United Nations General Assembly, Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Iyad Ameen Madani, met the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Libya, Mr Muhammad Taher Sayala on Wednesday here.
During the meeting, the minister gave a detailed briefing on the development of the situation in Libya. He appreciated the continuous support of the OIC for the Government of National Unity and the efforts to resolve the Libyan crisis through peaceful means. For his part, the Secretary General affirmed the commitment of the OIC to peace, security and stability in Libya and to devote all its capabilities to achieve this objective.
The General Secretariat of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation will send a high-level delegation to participate in the upcoming International Muslim Women Summit (IMWS) 2016, which will be held on 23-25 September 2016 in Malaysia.
The Summit will host over 1500 women participants from the OIC member states to address women’s rights across the globe and their need for opportunities and security in the contemporary world.
The main theme of the summit is “Muslim Women – Silk as Soft, Strong as Iron” and the OIC delegation, represented by Director of Family Affairs Department, Dr. Fadila Grine, will deliver a keynote address on ‘The Global Challenges: Empowering Women and Providing Security’.
