OIC HR body to dispose of big agenda

Jeddah,—The 9th session of the OIC Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC) will be held from 01-05 May, 2016 in Jeddah. It will be attended by all OIC Member and Observer States including their National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs), experts from different relevant international and regional organizations, and senior officials of the OIC General Secretariat and media representatives.
The Commission is expected to hold detailed discussions on all issues on its agenda, including the civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights in OIC Member States, the human rights violations in Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir. Also, the regular meetings of its four Working Groups on Palestine; Rights of Women and Child; Islamophobia and Muslim minorities; and the Right to Development will discuss and adopt reports and studies carried out by the Commission Members.
The Commission will hold a thematic debate on “Impact of Women Empowerment on Sustainable Development of Member States” on Wednesday May,04 2016. The IPHRC Chairperson and the OIC Secretary General will inaugurate the debate which will be attended by the Secretary General of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy and experts from different relevant international and regional organizations as well as representatives of OIC Member and Observer States including their NHRIs. One of the key objectives of the thematic debate would be analyse the impact, relevance, efficacy and effectiveness of the ongoing international, regional and OIC’s own initiatives for linking women empowerment with the recently adopted Sustainable Development Goals by the UN.
On May, 05 2016, a Joint Workshop with the US State Department on the implementation of the UNHRC Resolution 16/18 will be held. The purpose of the workshop will be to focus on sharing of good practices and challenges faced in the implementation of the Action Plan contained in OIC sponsored UN HRC Resolution 16/18 at different levels.—Email
