OIC-IPHRC in collaboration with the State Ministry of Human Rights, Government of the Kingdom of Morocco and OHCHR shall be holding its 4thAnnual International Seminar in Rabat on 23-24 October 2017. The theme chosen for this year’s Seminar is “The Role of Media in Combatting Hate Speech”.
The Moroccan, Minister of State for Human Rights, the OIC Secretary General, the representative of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the IPHRC Chairperson will inaugurate the Seminar on 23th October, 2017 at 0900 hours at the Hôtel La Tour Hassan PALACE, Rabat.It will be attended by all OIC Member and Observer States including their National Human Rights Institutions, experts from different relevant international and regional organizations, senior officials of the United Nations, Moroccan State Ministries and media representatives.
The Seminar will analyze the role of media and professionals in promoting freedom of expression in a responsible fashion away from negative stereotyping, xenophobia or hate speech. It also intends to raise awareness about responsible reporting within the confines of voluntary codes of ethics and professionalism for promoting a positive role of media in building robust, law abiding, peaceful and multicultural societies.
The Seminar will make recommendations on crafting inclusive long term media strategies that seek to protect freedom of expression while forthrightly combating hate speech in accordance with international human rights standards that are meant to safeguarde respective religious and cultural particularities in all societies.—PR
