NUTECH’s Inauguration

OUR armed forces have not only proven their prowess and might for defence of the country but they have always remained at the forefront in the nation building by focusing on human resource development as per the modern day requirements — which in fact is need of the hour to keep pace with the world.
Pakistan Army took yet another important step towards that end when Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Wednesday inaugurated the National University of Technology (NUTECH), which has been dubbed as the University for Industry. This envisages creating future leaders for industry and skilled workforce for economic development of the country. Speaking on the occasion, the Army Chief appreciated effective creation of university-industry linkages. He also assured full support to NUTECH in building its future main campus on the outskirts of Rawalpindi/Islamabad, which will accommodate thirty thousand to fifty thousand students. Indeed currently there is disconnect between our industry and academia and this is the reason that we are currently faced with shortage of skilled workforce. The establishment of this university is a step in the right direction and it should also encourage other institutes of higher learning to develop the necessary linkages with the industrial sector in order to prepare the workforce keeping in view the demand of the industries. Already mega projects such as China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has opened up many opportunities for our youth and the next phase of it will see rapid industrialisation and generation of thousands of job opportunities. Our youth only will be able to secure jobs in the SEZs if they have the necessary skills at hand. The country needs a balanced mix of highly skilled workers, technicians, mechanics, technologists, engineers, researchers and development scientists to keep pace with the world. This requires an ecosystem that nurtures the experimental learning of the students whilst also infusing theoretical education. As regards the NUTECH, we are confident that this institute will also be made a centre of excellent on the pattern of NUST which is playing a leading role in advancement of science and technology and promotion of entrepreneurship and innovation.
