Nisar’s categorical assurance to China

MINISTER for Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Sun Weidong had a meeting on Monday to discuss various issues especially the progress made over the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project. Ch Nisar held out an assurance to China that safety and protection of Chinese engineers working in Pakistan is the top priority of the Government.
Concerns about safety of foreigners especially the Chinese engineers and manpower working on CPEC related projects are not misplaced as India is on record having declared its intention to sabotage the project that is aimed at alleviating poverty and backwardness of people of Pakistan. Now, after recent statements of Prime Minister Modi, these apprehensions should get serious attention and steps should be taken to ensure foolproof security of all those working on such projects. No doubt, the Government has done well in raising a full-fledged Division for security of CPEC and allocation of over one billion rupees for the purpose but the nature of the threat demands that a comprehensive strategy should be chalked out to counter conspiracies. For this purpose, the Implementation Committee of NAP, led by National Security Advisor General Nasser Janjua, may coordinate among different agencies for the purpose. Hopefully, the Provincial governments would also devise plans to ensure security of projects and manpower in their areas of jurisdiction. The Security Division and our intelligence agencies should play a proactive role in thwarting designs of the enemy as prevention is always better than cure.
