New underpass

The inauguration of the new 1.3km long underpass on the Lahore Canal by Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif is another milestone achieved by the PML-N led government. Earlier known as Chubacha Underpass, the project has been renamed as Beijing Underpass to commemorate China’s contribution to the development projects in Pakistan. The project certainly calls for applause as it will benefit 175,000 vehicles on a daily basis and save Rs.994.42 million on account of fuel and time cost annually. It is pertinent to mention here that 3 bridges for U-turns have been constructed to maintain better flow of traffic and roads on both sides of the canal have been widened to a maximum of 9km under this project. Moreover, LED lights have been installed to add to the beauty of the project.
There is an objective reality out there, but we view it through the spectacles of our mis-belief, stigmatic attitude and self-asserted value. Therefore, it is requested to stop all undue criticism against the Government as it will serve as an obstacle to the ongoing development in the country. The Government of Punjab certainly acknowledges the needs of its people and is leaving no stone unturned to uplift the social and economic lives of its people. It is hoped that such initiatives will continue in future as well and contribute to the socio-economic development of the entire nation.
