New power projects to reduce load-shedding

Islamabad—The government has launched several power projects to enhance power generation which would help eliminating menace of load-shedding, State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali said on Saturday.
Talking to media, the minister said electricity generation would be increased to 18,000 megawatt by the end of this year to meet energy demands. He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, top priority was being given to power sector to end darkness from the country as per promised by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.
Abid Sher Ali Diamer-Bhasha and Dasu Dam projects were in pipeline and seventy per cent land for Diamer-Bhasha dam has been acquired. He said new transmission lines were also being installed besides up-grading the existing system to reduce line losses.
He said work on 4th and 5th extension of Tarbela was also underway to increase electricity generation from the project. The minister said that load-shedding has been restricted to six hours in urban areas while eight hours in rural areas as a result of solid efforts made by the government.—APP
