New BISP poverty survey to cover whole country: Marvi

Peshawar—Minister of State and Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) and Member National Assembly Marvi Memon has said that new poverty survey would take into account each and every inch of the country and there would be no limiting factors or political interference in the National Socio Economic Registry (NSER) update.
The security situation has greatly improved since the incumbent government came to power. The improvement in security situation would make BISP’s resolve to work for the welfare of the downtrodden population more fruitful,” said Minister of State and Chairperson BISP Marvi Memon during her visit to BISP Tehsil office and Mujahid Town in Lakki Marwat, FR Lakki and the village of Sar Garhay Muhammad Khan in continuation of her efforts to sensitize masses on the new poverty survey of BISP.
The last poverty survey conducted in 2010 under previous government did not cover several hard areas of FATA including Frontier Regions. BISP, is committed to update NSER that covers every area of the country keeping in view all the factors like accessibility, terrain and security situation. The pilot phase of the new survey is starting from midyear in 15 districts and a tribal agency. In her meetings with PML (N) District President Shafiullah Khan Begukhel, Tehsil Nazim Hidayatullah Khan, political workers of PML (N) and JUI (F), tribal elders, local government representatives and administration, Chairperson BISP urged support for the survey teams and discussed mechanisms for effective re-survey. She directed the local administration to prepare detailed account of villages in the area for effective identification of the poor.
Women of FR Lakki welcomed Chairperson BISP and acknowledged her visit being the first high level visit by any lady Minister in the history of Pakistan. They highlighted their problems and shared their concerns. Chairperson BISP assured Lakki women of full assistance by BISP administration and stated that number of payment points would be increased in the area to facilitate the local women. She reiterated that as per the directions of the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar.—APP
