NCHR to give detailed briefing on Thar situation

Islamabad—National Assembly standing committee on Human Rights directed National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR) to present detailed briefing on Thar situation before the body in the next meeting. The committee also directed to call representatives of Sindh provincial ministries of Food and Health to apprise them with the steps taken for addressing grievances of general public.
Chairing the committee Member National Assembly (MNA), Babar Nawaz Khan said children of Thar who died of starvation are as much dear to us as our own children and they have equal rights to access basic necessities of life like others. The committee members also decided to conduct a visit of Thar for analyzing the ground situation of masses difficulties and to give them relief.
Member National Assembly Sayed Essa Nori pointed out that people of Gawadar are facing severe difficulty for clean drinking water. He said, “In few areas people bring water from almost 50 kg away areas to fulfil their daily needs”. The meeting took notice of the desiltation plant installed at Gawadar with the cooperation of China to convert sea water into sweet water for daily use which in not functional since long.
Members also raised the issues of big amount of life saving drugs found in a tank in Chachro, Mithi and the inhuman behaviour of citizens with three sisters and their father in Sheikhopura who were not willing to sell their land.—APP
