NC jerks, ready to drop autonomy demand

Srinagar—The National Conference (NC) on Friday announced to embrace any other solution to Kashmir issue instead of restoration of internal autonomy that is the basic plank of its politics over the years. “We see the solution of Kashmir can be achieved through internal autonomy but we never said it is the ultimate solution”, former Chief Minister and Working President of the party Omar Abdullah said here. “We never said that any other idea for resolution of Kashmir dispute won’t work. If anyone has alternative through which maximum can be achieved, National conference will have no objections,” Abdullah said while addressing NC youth workers at the party’s Nawai Subh headquarters.
Omar said the dispute of the state was not the issue of money and unemployment but the political one that can be resolved only by political means. Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the party function, Omar said that he was not concerned about encounters between militant and Indian forces as much as he was about the situation which arises after the encounters. “I don’t worry about encounters, but the simultaneous law and order situation (protest) that emerges after encounters and then the use of force by the government, which becomes a self fulfilling prophecy that further aggravates. The situation which could be dealt politically is dealt administratively,” he said
Omar also said that the absence of public elected government was detrimental to the state and it was tantamount to playing with danger. “I believe some sort of uncertainty in a state like Jammu and Kashmir is tantamount to playing with danger. Both (PDP and BJP) parties should rise above their self interests and think about the state,” Omar added.—KR
