Nawaz decides to face courts

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif returned to the country on Monday and appeared before the Accountability Aourt on Tuesday. Earlier, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar also appeared before the Accountability Court in Islamabad, which sent a clear message that Sharif family as well as Dar have decided to make a difference by their appearance before the courts of law.
When Nawaz Sharif proceeded abroad to enquire after health of his spouse Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, who went through three surgeries in London, some circles propagated that Nawaz would not return and has escaped accountability courts on the pretext of his ailing wife. Irrespective of what was in his mind, the decision of the former Prime Minister to return to the country despite a host of challenges thrown by the circumstances, would have deep impact not only on the fate of PML (N) but also on overall politics of the country. No doubt, PML (N) is ruling the country but it is known to all that for majority of leaders, workers and people PML (N) means Sharif family and its absence from the domestic scene would have seriously dented its popularity and future prospects. With incorporation of an amendment in the Election Bill 2017, there are bright chances that Mian Nawaz Sharif would again be elected head of the party despite his disqualification by the Supreme Court in the Panama case and this means he would practically make all the decisions. This would surely help keep the party intact at a time when all sorts of pressures are being built to cause a dent in its unity and solidarity. This will throw a formidable challenge to his political opponents and, perhaps, that is why PTI has raised the demand of early elections. Similarly, PML (N) would also reap political benefit from appearance of Sharif family especially Nawaz Sharif before the accountability courts as former President Gen Pervez Musharraf is evading courts and judicial process. It is also meaningful that MNS has decided to fight references against him despite his objection to monitoring of the Accountability Court by a judge of the Supreme Court.
