Islamabad—National Accountability Bureau has written a letter to the Interior Ministry to put the name of PPP leader and Ex-Chairman of Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) on the Exit Control List.
According to sources, the NAB has almost completed the three investigations into corruption and irregularities of Rs 1. 5 billion committed by Asif Hashmi in the position of Chairman of ETPB during tenure of the PPP led government. The anti-corruption body had given go ahead to the investigations in November last year. The first one related to his alleged investment of Rs 985.56 million rupees in a private firm, the High Links Capital; the second investigation was about illegal appointments, promotion and illegal regularization of employees in the evacuee trust and the third one pertained to the illegal allotment of plots to ETPB employees.
The sources said the request for putting Asif Hashmis name on ECL has been sent to the interior ministry following reports from different quarters that he could flee the country anytime to avoid trial proceedings. According to the NAB officials, after finalization of investigation the trial proceedings are initiated and the accused persons facing charges of corruption and corrupt practices may face fourteen years of rigorous imprisonment with fine and or confiscation of assets and properties in the name of accused or his family members.
