NAB encroaches upon pedestrian pavement

In the federal capital, encroachments over the years have emerged as a chronic problem. Often the civil body claims to have launched anti-encroachments campaigns but what to say of those so-called drives when now even the pavements constructed for the pedestrians are now being encroached forcing the people to walk in the middle of the road. I especially mention the building recently constructed by the National Accountability Bureau adjacent to Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (Radio Pakistan). Before the construction of the building, there was a complete stretch for the pedestrians but during the process of construction of the building, the entire pavement stretch was bulldozed, forcing the poor people to walk on the busy road and leave their life at the mercy of the fast moving vehicles. The NAB has replaced the pavement with a flower or plant bed. It is worth mentioning here that this road houses many offices including that of PBC, COMSATS, Pakistan Agriculture Research Council and Pakistan Science Council. In addition, many of the offices located on the Constitution Avenue also use this road to reach their offices as the public transport disembarks the travellers on the Embassy Road. Therefore, we will urge the new Chairman NAB Justice Javed Iqbal {whom I personally know as a thorough gentleman} to take notice of the situation and order the contractor to restore the pedestrian pavement in front of the building. The flower bed established outside the NAB building may be moved inside as it has sufficient space inside for the purpose.
