NAB arrests 2 betel leaf importers

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore has arrested two more Betel Leaf importers known as accused Sheikh Muhammad Naseem and accused Aqeel Ahmed for causing a loss of Rs 26.757 million to Government kitty by evading/mis-calculating custom duty liable on import of Betel Leaf in Rs 2.6 billion corruption case being probed with NAB Lahore region.
Accused Sheikh Muhammad Naseem used to import Betel Leaf from Sri Lanka through M/s Ramish International and the liable known amount over him remains Rs 25.758 Million against him, whereas, other accused Aqeel Ahmed evaded custom duty worth a Million rupees by paying far less duty in a government designated Bank as compared to the amounts shown on the hard copies of Goods Declaration (GDs).
NAB Lahore is investigating a mega corruption scam related to evasion and mis-calculation of custom Duty being implicated over import of Betel Leaf from abroad during 2008-12. In accordance with Pak-Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement, Betel Leaf is being imported from Sri Lanka to Pakistan, whereas, by alleged evasion.
