Karachi—The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-London’s telephone line has fallen silent for two days now due to “non-payment” of the bill to the British Telecommunication (BT), according to information received here late Wednesday evening .
MQM activists complained on social media that their phones – from Karachi and elsewhere – were not being answered by the London ‘International Secretariat’.
MQM London’s leader and Altaf Hussain’s right-hand man Nadeem Nusrat responded to queries: “Facing severe financial crisis. Secretariat phones down due to non-payment. But don’t worry. Won’t leave Altaf Bhai alone to face this.”
A trusted source said that it’s a “political move” by the MQM-London to develop narrative that its facing financial pressures. “MQM has money and properties in Dubai, America, Canada and many other countries. It can continue to run its London operations for decades without getting a penny from Pakistan. The actual motivation is to raise funds from the Urdu speaking community in the USA, UK and elsewhere,” said the source who has good knowledge about the financial strength of the MQM’s London chapter headed by Altaf Hussain and Nadeem Nusrat.
