karachi—Pakistan’s leading biscuit company, English Biscuit Manufacturers (Pvt.) Limited (EBM),in collaboration with the Marie Adelaide Leprosy Centre (MALC)inaugurated the Mother and Child Outpatient Department (MnCH OPD) of MALC- EBM Health Centre in Landhi-Korangi. Working for the care of mothers and their newborns, the Centre will provide nutritional support and guidance to women of child bearing age, expecting mothers and newborns.
This first of its kind Mother and Child Centre has been established to prevent the rising child mortality in society caused by vitamins, minerals and iron deficiencies, as a leading cause. In Pakistan, more than 40 out of every thousand newborns die within the first month of birth, and these deaths are highly preventable through improved nutrition, proper prenatal care and provision of basic medical services.
English Biscuit Manufacturers (Pvt.) Limited has been supporting the triple merger activities of MALC-EBM Health Centre, Landhi Korangi since 2005. Over the past 2 years, more than 35,000 people have received awareness and care including treatment of leprosy and skin diseases, blindness, tuberculosis treatment and control activities.
