MOHR holds walk to create awareness on violence against women

People participated in a walk arranged here on Friday in front of Family Protection and Rehabilitation Center for Women (FP&RCW) to create awareness on Violence Against Women (VAG).
The walk was jointly organized by ‘Family Protection & Rehabilitation and Rehabilitation Centre, Islamabad’ and `National Child Protection Center’ the attached departments of Ministry of Human Rights (MOHR) to celebrate 16 days of activism against gender based violence. The purpose key objective was to highlight the massage “Zero tolerance for violence against women and girls”. Participants were holding banners and chanting slogans to highlight women rights.
They also urged to curb any kind of discrimination against women and girls, as the domestic violence is the most under reported crime, because it is generally condoned by social customs and considered as private family matter. Deputy Secretary Ministry of Human Rights, Khalil Awan, who led the walk, apprised participants with the laws passed for protecting rights of women.
He also informed about the steps taken by the ministry for women welfare besides the institutions working to redress of their grievances.
He asked people a helpline 1099 is providing free legal aid to victims of human rights while they can also register their complains to National Commission on Human Rights.—APP
