Modern forensic, DNA test lab to be operational soon

Multan—Another modern forensic laboratory, an upgraded version compared to the previous one, has reached here and would become operational to help police identify criminals within next few days, police said on Saturday.
Multan police had earlier received first forensic laboratory van back in 2013 from the Punjab government which enabled police to detect criminals involved in 50 dacoity cases besides identifying 100 people whose bodies were found from different parts of the district during last few years. That forensic laboratory, however, lacked DNA testing feature, which is available in the newly arrived forensic van. However, the results of DNA test from this forensic laboratory would be verified from the forensic laboratory at Lahore.
The new forensic van would be instrumental in investigations of cases particularly those involving serious nature offenses.
Incharge, Crime Record Office (CRO), Muhammad Javed told APP that the new forensic van was equipped with DNA test kit, finger prints kit, sketch format, preserve evidences from the crime scene and other facilities. Moreover, the powder to lift finger prints was an American brand that has reputation of showing good results. This new forensic laboratory would also help police store record of criminals, Javed said.
Meanwhile, it is reported that the Oldage Home is facing problems due to shortage of staff, including a doctor and psychiatrist.—APP
