Ministers review flood prevention measures

Sialkot—Provincial Minister for Zakat and Ushr Malik Nadeem Kamran, Provincial Minister for Agriculture Dr. Farrukh Javaid and Provincial Minister for Industry Chaudhry Shafiq visited various areas of rivers Chenab, Jammu and Tavi near Head Marala, here on Friday.
They reviewed in details flood prevention and safety measures being taken by the district administrations of Sialkot, Narowal and Gujrat districts to avert the recurring flood threats and save these areas, local people and their cattle from flood.
Punjab’s Cabinet Committee on Flood also held an important meeting at Head Marala which was presdied over by Committee’s Chairman Malik Nadeem Kamran.
Speaking on the occasion, the provincial ministers said that the government was making all out efforts besides spending billions of rupees to save the areas, people and their properties and cattle from flood.
They also directed the concerned officials to ensure early repairing, stone pitching and pavement of all the damaged protective dykes, embankments and banks of the said rivers and seasonal nullahs in these three districts by completing the repairing work on emergency basis.
In the meeting, Provincial Secretary Irrigation Punjab Capt. (Retd) Saif Anjum gave a detailed briefing about the prevailing flood situations in rivers Chenab, Tavi and Jammu and seasonal nullahs – Aik, Dek, Bhed, Baeen, Bassunter and Palkhu in Sialkot, Narowal and Gujrat districts.
He told that the district administration of Sialkot, Narowal and Gujrat districts were already monitoring the flood situation, besides, putting all concerned department on high alert, in this regard.
The meeting was told that the entire flood situation was totally under control here. Chairman PDMA Punjab Jawad Rafiq Malik, Commissioner Gujranwala Division Capt. (Retd) Muhammad Asif, DCO Sialkot Dr. Asif Tufail, ADCG Sialkot Dr. Umer Sher Chatha, DCO Narowal Rafaqat Ali, DCO Gujrat Liaqat Ali Chatha and local officials of the Irrigation department also attended the meeting.—APP
