Punjab Minister for Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education (SH&ME) Khawaja Salman Rafiq Monday expressed indignation to Health Department officers and Project Director of Wazirabad Institute of Cardiology (WIC) on slow pace of work to fully functional the institution.
He directed the officers concerned to complete procurement of medical equipment for operation theaters at the earliest and ensure recruitment on 75 newly sanctioned posts of medical officers, senior registrars, head and staff nurses.
Chairing a meeting here to review progress on the Wazirabad Institute of Cardiology , the SH&ME Minister said that government had spent Rs 1.5 billion on the project and Rs 490 million had been provided for procurement of equipment and requirements etc.
He expressed displeasure at a snail’s pace over equipment procurement and issued directives to complete the process on fast track basis.
Briefing the meeting, Wazirabad Institute of Cardiology Medical Superintendent said that angiography facility was available in the cardiac center and during the last three months, 65 angiography procedures had been carried out.
Wazirabad Institute of Cardiology had an MoU with a private hospital in Wazirabad for cardiac surgery, he added.
Kh. Salman Rafiq directed that WIC should be linked with Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) for providing treatment and surgery facilities to patients in Wazirabad.
The Minister also directed that BoM (Board of Management) of Wazirabad Institute of Cardiology also be constituted at the earliest.
He directed that next meeting be convened within a week to finalize the arrangements in which the Punjab Institute of Cardiology Chief Executive also be invited.
Additional Secretary Health (Admin), Procurement Specialist Health Department, officers from Finance Department and WIC Project Director were also present.
