Attempt to blow flyover foiled

Peshawar—The security forces on Friday successfully repulsed two attacks on their check posts in Mohmand and Bajaur agencies. Both the assaults were believed to be carried out by militants from across the border.
Reports reaching here said the aggressors from Afghanistan launched attack on a security forces check post in Sheikh Baba area of Mohmand agency Friday morning and resorted to indiscriminate firing on the troops guarding the post.
However, the Pakistani security forces effectively repulsed the attack forcing the assaulters flee.
Likewise, another attack was lunched, that too from across the border at Nawa Pass security force in Bajaur agency and the militants fired indiscriminately at the forces. This attack was also repulsed as the forces retaliated effectively. However, no casualties were reported from any of the assaults.
In the meanwhile a major terror plot was foiled when the Bomb Disposal Unit on Friday defused a three-kilogram bomb planted near a flyover in Peshawar.
Police said the locals informed the law enforcers about presence of a suspicious bag under Mufti Mehmood Flyover near Bacha Khan Chowk. A police contingent and the bomb disposal unit rushed to the site and immediately cordoned off the area and diverted the vehicular traffic. According to BDU officials an explosive device weighing three-kilogram placed in the bag was defused successfully.
The Police also claimed to have arrested a suspicious man from the area handed over to the Counter Terrorism Department for further interrogation.
Agencies add: The Jamaatul Ahrar militant group has claimed responsibility for the attacks.
