Mewar University Rajasthan suspends 16 Kashmiri students

Srinagar—Sixteen Kashmiri students have been suspended by Mewar University Rajasthan for celebrating the victory of West Indies against India in the World T20 semi-final, last week.
Indian police had arrested nine students and one employee – all from occupied Kashmir – on March 31 after they praised West Indies cricket team.
“We have decided to take strong disciplinary action against these students. It needs to be understood that such actions will not be tolerated at the university,” Harish Gurnani, the university’s media liaison officer, told Indian media.
“The university administration suspended the 16 Kashmiri students, seven from Jammu region and nine from Kashmir Valley, till April 25, 2016, during which they would be barred from the hostel as well,” Gurnani said. “After April 25, the students will be required to report to the university along with their parents/guardians and put across their side.—KMS
