ISLAMABAD : Mayor of Islamabad and Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA), Sheikh Anser Aziz has said that the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) extends all-out support to the organizations struggling to fight diabetes.
Addressing a ceremony in connection with “World Diabetic Day” held at F-9 Park on Tuesday, Sheikh Anser Aziz said that facilities like parks, grounds and other areas are being improved in addition to this provision of state-of-the-art recreational facilities to the residents are being ensured as healthy habits, healthy food, healthy life style are the factors which can curtail this fast spreading disease.
The ceremony was organized in collaboration with The Diabetic Center. Dietarians, health and fitness specialists and people from different walks of life participated in the event. A walk was also organized aimed to aware the people about hazards of the fast spreading disease.
Sheikh Anser Aziz said that in order to get rid from this deadly disease, efforts both at departments and individual levels are required. He said that MCI has taken number of steps to provide best healthy facilities to residents of the city. In this connection, play grounds are being upgraded in addition to the construction of new ones.
He said that recently MCI has opted Healthy City Program with the assistance and technical support from World Health Organization which will surely improve overall health facilities in the Federal Capital.
The Dietarians and Health practitioners, in their address said that a large number of patients do not know about their disease as they never underwent any medical checkup, therefore regular checkup in this regard can help cure this disease. They said the reasons behind the rise of this disease in our country is increasing trend of junk and fast food, soft drinks, smoking, overweight, obesity, physical inactivity, stress and depression and lack of periodic checkup of blood sugar level. Therefore, healthy style should be opted.
On this occasion, free screening camps were also established to carryout sugar screening of the participants. Moreover, health practitioners gave free advices to the participants of the ceremony.
