Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar presided over a meeting on the arrangements for the civic facilities for the mourning processions and majalis of Muharram-ul-Haram.
The meeting held at the KMC Building here on Monday was also attended by renowned religious leaders and scholars belonging to all schools of thoughts and organizers of Muharram Majalis and processions, said a statement.
Wasim Akhtar thanked the participants and said the importance of inter faith and inter-sect harmony and unity becomes twofold during the holy month of Muharram, we need to help each other for maintenance of law and order and progress of this city.
All problems regarding arrangements of Muharram processions and religious gatherings will be solved through mutual consultations.
He said that the city problems would be resolved not temporarily but on permanent basis. Citizens of Karachi should also join hands with municipal bodies in their cleanliness drive and dump their garbage and waste only at designated places, he added.
During the meeting Allama Abbas Kameli of Jafferia Alliance, Allama Furqan Abidi, Syed Waqar Hussain Taqvi, Moulana Abdul Karim Abid, Allama Ferozuddin Rehmani, Syed Badar Ali, Jaffer Subhani of Shia Ulema Council, Mohammad Yaqoub Attari and Saleem Attari of Dawat-e-Islami, Mohammad Siddique Rathore of JUP, Moulana Akbar Dars and others expressed their views and presented various problems.
They also demanded solution of such problems regarding water and sewerage system, broken roads and streets, street lights repair and maintenance and sanitation arrangements.
