Islamabad—President of Republic of Mauritius Dr. Bibi Ameenah Firdaus Gurib-Fakim Sunday planted a friendship tree at the Memorial Garden of Shakarparian here as memorial to her visit.
The Mauritius President arrived here earlier on the day on four-day visit, at the invitation of President Mamnoon Hussain.
Minister of State for Information Technology Anusha Rehman, the minister-in-waiting, and senior officers of the Capital Development Authority also accompanied the visiting dignitary.
The practice of planting tree at the Memorial Garden is unique in the world that began on February 21, 1964, when Zhou Enlai, the first Premier of the People’s Republic of China, sowed a seed of the Chinese tallow tree.
The Mauritius President also visited the Pakistan Monument where she was briefed about the salient features of the monument representing four provinces and three territories of the country.
