Malika Pukhraj, the famous folk, classic and ghazal singer’s 13 death anniversary was observed in Lahore on Saturday. She died at age 92 on Feb 4, 2004. She gained immense popularity with the rendition of Hafeez Jullandary’s Kalam Abhi Tu Mein Jawan Hoon. Faiz Ahmad Faiz ‘s ghazals were made popular by her singing.
She had depth in her voice. It melted the stone hearts. She was queen of classical music. Her rendition of Faiz’s stylish poetry like “Meray Qatil, meray dildar, Meray pass raho” . Lo Phir Basant Aae, Piya Baaj Jya na Jai became instant hit with the music lovers. She lives in the hearts of the millions of her fans all over the world. She was a decent lady. She was one of the most celebrated vocalists among the singing legend of the Indo-Pakistan Sub-Continent. She was honoured by the government with the pride of performance and several other awards. She would always be remembered for her services in the field of Music.
