Major power breakdown in Mohmand Agency

Ghalanai—A major electricity breakdown hit the whole Mohmand Agency (MA) when a fire erupted in the 132/KV grid station at the agency headquarters Ghalanai on Saturday midnight officials told Pakistan Observer.
The flames also disrupted the functioning of 11 other feeders cutting power supply to, Ghalanai, Pandiali, Garang, Ekkaghund, Yousaf Khel, Shati Khel, Lakro-1, Lakaro-1, Khwezai and Gul Man Shah steel Furnas, these localities were without electricity in the area.
Assistant Political Agent Haseb-ur- Rehman said firefighters from Levies and Khassadrs Forces and local administration put out the flames after two hour tough struggle.
The fire destroyed the panel and control rooms along with other machinery in the feeder causing an estimated loss of Rs120 million to the Tribal Electricity Supply Company (TESCO). Officials said the fire broke out in the grid station at 1:00am after which thick smoke engulfed the area.
Chief TESCO Zaka Ullah Gandaportold , that the cause of the fire was not clear and they will conduct an inquiry which will prepare a report within a month. He said the fire damaged all the machinery in the control room. He could not give a timeframe for the restoration of the power supply but said it would take time.
