Living without social media

Abeer Hussain.

Fifteen days ago, I made a decision to give up social media for two weeks. Well here I am reporting that the past two weeks has been life changing. I can say the most successful days of my existence. My goal for giving up social media was to create more values in my life, and appreciate the quality time that I spent with friends.
From the beginning, the first couple days were full of withdrawal symptoms. I’d open a new tab in chrome and started typing without thinking about it. I missed the constant entertainment from instagram and snapchat. After some days it got better. But I still missed facebook, mostly because it came up in conversation all of the time.
The benefits were immediate and many. With a mind free to wander and explore, I started to create things to make moves. “I wrote”, I wrote more words in the past 15 days than I had in my entire life. Well may be besides that year I downloaded WordPress app. And I think that I am getting better at crafting words because of it. I sat down and tried to figure out what creating value in my life really meant. So that’s what I started doing.
I started my old morning routine and now I find it incredibly beneficial, it clears my head and opens me up for the day. I built stronger friendship and forged a couple of new ones. I am first year university student and am back on “social media’ but I don’t want to go back to my old routine, the new one is so much better. At the end I highly encourage everyone to take this challenge, even if it’s only for a day.
