LHC suspends PEMRA order on TV licence

Lahore—The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday suspended Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) order for suspension of Din TV licence.
Justice Shams Mehmood Mirza passed the orders while hearing a petition, filed by Din TV challenging the PEMRA order for suspension of its licence. Earlier, petitioner’s counsel Dr Abdul Basit arguing before the court submitted that PEMRA had suspended licence of Din TV for a month for airing a news item. He contended that PEMRA’s decision was unconstitutional and illegal. He pleaded with the court to set aside the order.
However, PEMRA’s counsel told the court that Chairman PEMRA had the authority to suspend licence of any media broadcast.—APP
