The LHC on Saturday ordered the recounting of votes in NA-131 on a petition filed by PML-N leader Saad Rafique, who lost the election to PTI chairman Imran Khan.
Justice Mamoonur Rashid directed the ECP to withhold the notification announcing Khan’s win from the constituency.
Saad Rafique had lost to the PTI chief by a margin of only 680 votes.
The court, after hearing arguments from both Rafique as well as Khan’s lawyers, announced the decision in Rafique’s favour.
According to Khan’s lawyer, Babar Awan: “The returning officer ordered the recounting of votes without hearing our side of the argument. He should have issued the order after having heard from all parties involved. We only received a notice asking us to appear as recounting will take place again.”
On the other hand, Rafique’s lawyer, Azam Nazir Tarar, while presenting his arguments before the court said that the returning officer, when approached for a recount, had said that first the rejected votes will be examined.
