LHC dismisses plea for conversion of Governor House

Lahore—The Lahore High Court on Friday dismissed a petition seeking conversion of the Governor House into an educational institution.
Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh heard the petition filed by Barrister Javed Iqbal Jafree. The court had reserved the verdict after hearing arguments of the parties on Thursday and it was announced today.
Earlier, the petitioner submitted that no doubt the office of the governor was symbolic, but the huge premises allocated for his residence was unjustified.
He said the best use of this huge building could only be an educational institution. He requested the court to issue directions for converting the Governor House into an educational institution.
However, a deputy attorney general submitted that the status of the Governor House could not be changed due to its historical significance. —APP
