LHC accepts police officials appeal for hearing in BB murder case

A division bench of the Lahore High Court on Monday accepted the appeals for hearing of former City Police Officer(CPO) Saud Aziz and Khurram Shahzad in former prime minister Benazir Bhutto’s murder case and issued notices to Federal Investigation Agency(FIA), Anti Terrorist Court and former SHO city Kashif Raiz to appear before the court with record on next hearing.
An anti-terrorism court of Rawalpindi had awarded 17 years sentence in prison to both officials on charges of committing criminal negligence and declared former president Pervez Mushraff absconder in BB murder case on August 31.
The appeals had been filed on behalf of the police officers by their lawyers, praying the high court to release the convicts after overturning the sentences handed to them.
The ATC had also imposed a fine of Rs 100,000 each on both convicts. The bench, comprising Justice Tariq Abassi and Justice Habibullah Amir while accepting the petition for regulating hearing issued notices to FIA, ATC and others respondents. The two time former Prime Minister Mohtramma Benazir Bhutto was assassinated in a suicide attack on December 27,in 2007 after addressing a public meeting at Liaquat Bagh.
