KP squash teams confer Youth Games award on Qamar

Peshawar—To pay rich tribute to former World Champion legendary Qamar Zaman, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa male and female squash teams conferred their winning awards of the Quaid-e-Azam National Youth Games on him here Thursday.
Besides former World Champion Qamar Zaman, Vice President Pakistan Olympic Association and former Sports Minister Syed Aqil Shah, former World No. 2 Mohib Ullah, General Secretary AIPs Asia Amjad Aziz Malik, Director Operation KP Sports Board Tariq Mehmood, PSB Coaches Pervez Ali, Shehzad Mohib, members of the KP squash female team comprising Komal Khan, Laiba Ijaz, Kainat Khan, Maria Khan, Manager Nargis Ijaz, male team coach Shakeel Khan, Asghar Khan, international athletic coach Syed Jaffar Shah, squash male team members were also present.
Speaking on the occasion, Director Operation KP Sports Board Tariq Mehmood lauded the efforts of the KP male and female teams for giving stunning performances in the recently concluded First Quiad-e-Azam National Youth Games.
He said despite short time for holding camps and trials, KP players have given excellent performance in the games.
He further stated that a request would be forwarded to the government for announcing cash incentives for the medalists winners.
Amajd Aziz Malik said that despite no trials and camping, the players of KP have given outstanding performance in the Quaid-e-Azam National Youth games by taking second position.
He said overall KP remained at second by winning 20 gold medal, 17 silver and 41 bronze medals. He said it is a matchless performance of the KP contingent in the games. He urged the provincial government to come forward with cash incentives for the players.
He said it is very astonishing on the part of the government who did not take any step in this regard. Amjad Aziz Malik assured the players that members of the KP Sports Writers Association would continue promoting sports in the province.
Syed Aqil Shah while addressing the gathering warned that if the PTI government is failed to provide cash incentives to the medal winners of various games, they would stage a “Darna” along with all the players in front of the Chief Minister House.
He disclosed that there is no shortage of funds but Imran Khan led PTI government failed to facilitate the players. He said without any trials and camps, the players represented KP in the Quaid-e-Azam National Youth Games and gave matchless performance.
At the end, the male and female players of squash awarded their medals and trophies to legendary Qamar Zaman with aim to pay tribute to his services he rendered for the promotion of squash in the country.—APP
