KP govt taking measures to improve human rights

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Senior Minister for Social Welfare and Women Development Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao has said that the present government is taking steps for improvement of the state of human rights in the province by provision of legal coverage.
The minister called upon the international community to come forward and support the efforts of the provincial government for empowerment of the women, children, special persons and senior citizens. He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of ‘Bolo Help Line 0800-22227’ established for supporting women rights here on Thursday.
The occasion was graced by the Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan, Ms Margaret of Adamson, and Country Director Trocaire in Pakistan John O Brien, Representative of Aiming Change For Tomorrow (ACT) Ms.Dina Naz Khattak Parliamentary Secretary Social Welfare KP, Officers of Social Welfare Department and a large number of representatives from National and International NGOs working for the women right.
The provincial minister termed the establishment of the said Help Line as a fundamental step for provision of rights to the women, supporting the victims of human rights abuse at every level against criminals. The Minister added that the helpline would help women-folk in integration as the vital part of society.
The minister while highlighting the efforts made for the betterment of all the down trodden segment of the society stated that legal cover was being provided as per the international requirements, aiming to bring them at par with others.
He said that a survey was being conducted to get the detailed database of victims, special children and senior citizens of the whole province aiming to facilitate them. He also directed the concerned quarters to keep the information of victims confidential and provide all possible help to them.—APP
