KP Additional IGP, gunman martyred in suicide hit

The men in uniform continued to be under terror attack in KP as the Additional Inspector General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police was martyred in a suicide hit in a posh locality of the provincial metropolis Friday morning.
Hardly a couple of days back, it may be recalled, Major Ishaq of Pakistan Army embraced Shahadat when he was fired upon during an encounter with the outlaws in D I Khan on Wednesday.
Additional IGP headquarters Ashraf Noor was on his way to office from his residence when his official vehicle was targeted by a suicide bomber as the blast also resulted in the Shahadat of his gunman and injuries to eight other mostly cops.
According to Police and eye witness account Additional IG Ashraf Noor had left his residence in Hayat Abad Township for the office in the morning when a suicide bomber rammed his explosive laden vehicle with the official vehicle of the top Police officer near Hayatabad sports complex. Sooner after the blast the vehicle was engulfed into high flames as the powerful explosion also caused damages to other vehicles passing nearby.
“A suicide bomber riding a motorbike rammed into the vehicle of AIGP Headquarters Mohammad Ashraf Noor near Tatara Park in the city’s posh locality of Hayatabad and detonated his explosive”. A senior Police officer said adding the blast was so powerful that even the nearby trees caught fire.
“When I reach the sight seven minutes after the blast, the Additional IGP’s vehicle and the motorcycle causing the blast were seen in high flame”. A rescue worker said adding the team of the Rescue 1122 put the fire off and shifted the victims to the Hayatabad Medical Complex where the AIG Ashraf Noor and his gunman were pronounced dead while seven other people including five cops were admitted form treatment. Some reports say firing shots were also heard after the blast.
The Additional IG Ashraf Noor was the target of the terrorist attack.” The body parts of the suicide bomber were found at the site”. The CCPO Peshawar Tahir Khan told media men at the site of the blast. Search and net operation was also launched in the area soon after the blast.
Ashraf Noor was the fourth top police officer succumbing to the terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Earlier DIG Abid Ali was martyred during an ambush by the outlaws more than a decade back, while DIG Sifwat Ghayoor, Commandant FC was martyred in 2011 when his official vehicle was targeted by a suicide bomber closed to his office. Likewise another efficient Police officer Malik Saad was martyred in 2009 when a suicide bomber blown himself near the police party during Moharram procession in Qissa Khawani Peshawar.
Hailing from Gilgit Baltistan, 55 year old Shaheed Ashraf Noor was a grade twenty one officer of the Police Service of Pakistan. He is survived by a widow and eight children. He served on several important positions in KP that include Commandant Police Training College and head of investigation branch.
Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Friday strongly condemned the suicide blast in Peshawar in which Additional Inspector General Police Ashraf Noor got martyred, while five constables sustained serious injuries.
The Prime Minister paid rich tributes to the sacrifices of the police personnel who were fighting terrorism and said “such dastardly acts of militants cannot deter our law-enforcement agencies and the nation in taking the fight to its logical conclusion.” “Our resolve to eradicate the menace of terrorism cannot be shaken,” the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister prayed for eternal peace for the departed soul and grant of courage to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa has also paid rich tribute to Additional Inspector General Headquarters Ashraf Noor who was killed in terrorist incident in Peshawar on Friday morning. “Salute to supreme sacrifice of our Police comrade AIG Noor. Our determination remains undeterred against threats to our motherland”. The COAS was quoted as saying by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on its Twitter account.
Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal , PTI chief Imran Khan, Pakistan Peoples Chairman Chief Bilawal Bhutto and Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Shareef have condemned the suicide attack on Additional IG Police KP Ashraf Noor in strong words and expressed sympathy with the bereaved family. They said the nation stands united for eliminating terrorism from the country.
Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Iqbal Zafar Jhagra and KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak have also condemned brutal killing of a senior most Police officer of the province and sympathized with the bereaved family. They said such like incident cannot weaken the resolve of the Police force in fighting against the terrorism. CM said the valiant Police Force of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has rendered numerous sacrifices in eliminating terrorism from the province and protecting the life property and honor of the masses.
The funeral prayers of slain Additional IGP Headquarters, Ashraf Noor was offered at Peshawar and Skardu with full police honor and was later buried in his ancestral village, Skardu.
In Peshawar funeral prayers of Ashraf Noor was offered in Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines which was attended by Governor KP, Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, Corps Commander Peshawar, Lt General Nazir Ahmad Butt, KP IGP, Salahuddin Mehsud, Speaker KP Assembly, Assad Qaisar, Air Vice Marshal, Sarfaraz, Commandant Frontier Constabulary, Liaqat Ali Khan, CCPO Peshawar, Muhammad Tahir and high ranking civil and police high ups.
Coffin of the Shaheed was covered with national flag and was presented salute by a smart contingent of police.
Talking to media after the funeral prayers, IGP said that Ashraf Noor was a dedicated and pious man who was known among the force and fellow colleagues for his professionalism and rightfulness. He said that martyrdom of slain Ashraf Noor has strengthened our resolve to fight against extremism with valor and courage. IGP vowed that perpetrators of the incidents would be apprehended and brought to court of justice.
