KMC administrator reviews re-construction projects

Karachi—Two of the big parks in Karachi would be re-constructed and the project of addition of modern swings, chairlift, revolving restaurant and food court in these parks was presented to KMC Administrator Laeeq Ahmed.
The project was presented by the consultant in the presence of the Metropolitan Commissioner Samiuddin Siddiqui, Director General Parks Asadullah Shah, Legal Advisor Jamil Farooqui and other officers.
The Administrator while expressing his liking for the project said the citizens of Karachi needs parks equipped with modern facilities where they could spend some time with their family, said a statement on Thursday.
He said the Hill Park was constructed in 1973 on a 42 acres piece of land and it still holds the distinction among other city parks. Laeeq Ahmed instructed the consultant to add more facilities to this project including the play area for kids and other facilities.
He advised that these projects should be designed in such a way that people from all walk of life get benefits from it. He also directed to remove encroachments without delay from a portion of the Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Park which has been occupied since long so that this could also be made useable for citizens.
He also directed the D.G Parks to arrange for more plantation and greenery in these parks. He said the public private partnership could be considered for construction and running of parks but this should not increase the entry fee or cost of other facilities in these parks.
In a briefing given to him this was informed that the illegal hotel and restaurant at Hill Park has been demolished whereas it has become necessary to remove all unauthorized constructions around this park so that the encroached portion of park could also be made useable. He was told that citizens in big numbers visit these parks on daily basis and enjoy the facilities provided there.—APP
