KMC Administrator inspects drain cleaning operation

Karachi—KMC Administrator Laeeq Ahmed has directed the contractor of drain cleaning to speed up work by incorporating more machinery and manpower so that flow of water in drains could improve before expected rains.
He said this while visiting Manzoor Colony Nallah, Chakor Nallah, Nehr-e-Khyam, Shah Faisal Colony Nallah, Gujjar Nallah and other storm water drains on Tuesday, said a statement.
Senior Director Municipal Services Masood Alam and officers and staff of Land and Anti Encroachments Department were also present.
He said proper and thorough cleaning of these drains could not be possible due to existence of encroachments on them resulting in blockage in the flow of water.
Reviewing the condition of Manzoor Colony Nallah, administrator Karachi said the encroachments established right inside the drain would have to be removed to make the way for cleaning of drain.
He also instructed to focus on the 1.6 kilo meters long covered drain near Awami Chowk in Mazoor Colony which he said would over flow to adjoining localities in case any blockage in water flow happened there. Meanwhile, following the directive of KMC Administrator, the Anti encroachments department removed concrete encroachments on the edges of Pitcher Nallah near old Haji Camp on Tuesday. The action was taken to clear the way for drain cleaning machinery.—APP
